Ginevra di Scozia is not the best known operas Simon Mayr, who is not the most famous Italian composers of the nineteenth century. More accustomed to Rossini bel canto, I bought this cabinet of curiosity, to compare the similarities and differences between the two forms of writing. If Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti's bel canto appear Mayr seemed prefigure, be the door. His style is more akin to that of his contemporary, Spontini, while being more "singing", but less likely to voice performance as Rossini. Here, the interpretation serves well valiant dynamic work and the sound is in unison: well balanced plans spaciousness, good sound environment. We are in a "Live" but you do not notice it. This box should appeal to all lovers of Italian opera of the first half of the nineteenth.
