The novel of school. Probably one of the best books of recent years. This is the story of a guy who tells his personal adventures, professional, sexual, marital, family, in short, that engages the reader. And by the way, he offers us a magnificent painting of the years of political and, of course, a splendid portrait of France. A whole life told in comic-dramatic fashion, ironically and delightfully written. And just the final scene, where the book "American" bill a little Philip Roth turns into Greek tragedy. "A French Life" is all about the historie of one man, Paul Blick, but most of his solitude. I am Quebecois, I am leftist and now I'm duboisien. A must read.
