So after he got there (mostly because of financial interests: the heirs want to keep copyright ...), even TV movie adapted in the 90: adapting itself very free and very mushy Book Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley, who do not really do it justice.
Scarlett is a dense book, whose action is between America and Ireland. It follows the adventures of heroin between the two continents, we watch every game with the same furtive Rhett. As for the end, for you to discover ...
Although this result certainly delight fans of Scarlett, the book (which I reread many times since my teens) may appear sometimes disappointing, because in my opinion it lacks credibility.
True, the author weaves the action on a historical background (here, Ireland). But the Ripley's Scarlett is not, for me, the same as that of Mitchell more softened, more sedate and less plague, manipulative and bounded, in brief a friendly word. We can say that she has matured, but if all the details of the characters are in agreement with Mitchell's novel, I find it somewhat unfortunate that makes Ripley Scarlett character too mushy.
Let us remember Scarlett: physical pleasure was not really his cup of tea. That is even why she did "reserved" to her husbands, not by morality of the time. And then, like magic, it turns to the torrid affair (with Rhett, or other ...).
Finally, placing the action out of America, Ripley prevents its main character does cotoie too often the others, those who were in Mitchell's novel: as if the author could not be doing together, to make them credible.
To read, certainly if we liked the book Michell and if you want a reply to an end !!!
