The case is very well made and feels as a result of the metal body "cool" to. Design and feel are subject to subjective evaluation; I like both good.
Image Stabilizer and AF operate silently. The AF is usually fail. If not, the MF is very well used by the enlarged view and color edge enhancement.
The minimum focusing distance of 25 cm can be well used for close-ups, however, is not directly comparable with macro shots of high-priced lenses such as the Nikon 105mm f / 2.8 VR. However, this lens will cost together more than 5N and lens and is really difficult.
Mostly I photograph in A mode or M with adapted panel. Then resolution and sharpness are to achieve best practice into the corners. The overall image quality I rate as good to very good. My last shots of the same scene with the Nikon D90 and the 16-85 VR were no better.
Zoom and focus ring can be very good use. Unlike the known to me Kitobjektiven 18-55mm Nikon and Canon the focus ring is much wider, better placed and thus really good usable.
The absence of the rear lens cap I criticize explicitly. This must be purchased separately for about 6.00.
Conclusion: It is not a high-performance lens, but in terms of the image result, the handling and the material used, the price / performance ratio is very good. I highly recommend the purchase of absolute, especially when compared with the corresponding lenses from Nikon and Canon. Compared with the aforementioned objectives in the Standard segment lenses in my opinion, are 5 points appropriate.
In the meantime, I also have the lens at Sony registered and thus obtain an extension of the 1-year warranty for another year on now for 2 years.
Addendum on 06/10/2012:
First, I had the intention to buy the 19mm f2.8 Sigma lens for NEX because of the good reviews. But after I took pictures with my SEL18-55mm focal length 24mm (36mm KB) "shot" and found that at aperture F7.1 really very good results can be achieved, the intention was not implemented. My statement is not directed against the Sigma lens, but speaks for my 18-55mm. An image I have set.
Nachwievor I find the performance for a kit lens good to very good.
