Le Monde de Kota is first atypical instrumentation: bass, electric guitar, trombone and chromatic harmonica. But it is also, and above all, a true musical universe forged by four strong personalities. I love the way they have to start from a rather pretty melody, slowly distorting, introduce dissonances leave completely or almost for sometimes arid spaces of freedom to the ear but still interesting, and then, either through small touches either one go to return to the theme.

And this magical merger of four strong individuals (say, 3 1/2, I am a little frustrated by the relative effacement guitarist) into a coherent and powerful whole without crushing the personalities of each other, that's a really rare pleasure.

And then again, I've said, this veritable universe of sound. The incredible range of the trombone will delicate phrasing, almost velvet with coppery sounding loud, squeaky, returning to the blower rails, almost dying. Bass which, when out of his role rhythmic support twirls around the bass line is expected, clicks, slides, harmonics, rope touches the wand, with a bow, a diversity of sounds equally astounding. A harmonica, Olivier Goulet twirls, responds to the excesses or the sweetness of the trombone, and he too, slap, moans, breathes in short, lives!

For me Whispers Jazz is the best discovery I made in 2006. Treat yourself, you will not be disappointed!
