Boris Vian plunges us into a world of violence, social and racial inequality, and denounces a puritanical American society, alcoholic and racist. It exposes us through the various characters to unbridled sexuality, and even indecent pedophile. We discover a main character intriguing that gradually turns manipulative, seductive and perverse. Motivated by revenge, it uses the "girls" and despises the morality white. The novel is written in the second degree and reveals a black comedy where the plot and cynicism keep us in suspense until the last line, however some scenes are shocking.
After reading it, I remained doubtful, loving me even long rich descriptions in novels where I can relate to a character. But on reflection I think the history is short, certainly, but poignant. The characters are complex, there is not necessarily of nice or bad, they are simply the result of a moral straightjacket, company principles and racial oppression.
