Brandon Sanderson has put together this time an original magic, based on the use of "breaths" (immaterial substance which every human has unique quantity and it may assign a person of his choice, the latter accumulating and then use) and colors. The author also plays a lot on the colors (the country that condemns magic, that of the two heroines, Vivenna and Siri, the forbidden in daily life, and unlike the country where the largest taking place in the History uses galore). As Elantris Brandon Sanderson chose to follow us several characters (Vivenna and Siri; Lightsong and Vasher) which follow, without even knowing it, the same purpose. This book can not fail to surprise you: it is full of pretense and mysteries are revealed progressively until the final crescendo. The characters are complex, living and endearing, especially LightSong, despite him living god. The plot is complex and well conceived, with an interesting reflection on the birth background and essence of religion (is this religion that creates the god or the opposite?). There is much humor, much more than in other books Brandon Sanderson (... marriage should succeed him!). The end is both happy (Brandon Sanderson is a romantic, probably one of the reasons why I like so much his books), a little sad in his wisdom and rather astonishing.
Note: This is a book not followed and a good choice to discover Brandon Sanderson.
