This book is a series of testimonies collected by a journalist Xinran, who from 1989 to 1997, presented every night on the radio Nanking a program called "Words on the Night Breeze." During the show, invited his listeners Xinran to talk about themselves, their lives and their dreams. These unique testimonies, exceptional, painful and often terrible, give us an overview of different for women in recent decades in China. All recueillis- evidence whatever social background of concernées- women talk about forced marriage, rape, abandonment, decimated families, poverty, denunciations of cruelty or foolishness ... Gradually, the reader understands the immense courage that was required on both sides for this book to be written, firstly the courage of a journalist to dare mention the lives of these women in this eroded by China censorship and taboos; and secondly the unimaginable courage of women who dare, for a single time, talk. It is a book whose every word is important because it gives a voice to women who have never had: this book is in fact a magnificent fight for freedom.
