Aaaaabeeerrrrr good album ....

I was looking forward for weeks on the new album by Blackberry Smoke. When it arrived, I immediately had to order "harass" my CD player. Good food for my CD player, I must say! Great songwriting, great instrumentation, typical texts and a musical melting pot somewhere. Between Southern, rock and roll, with a dash of folk, funk and blues While it does not quite serve up "The Whirpoorwill", but is quite a worthy successor.
A big but behind the production: During the previous nor even produced whirred through the speakers, holding was produced by Brendan O'Brien all the Roses. Right choice ?! Man (n) do not know .... while The Whirpoorwill nice earthy bubbled through the system, this Silberling but looks quite a bit "ironed out". Somehow too mainstream and trimmed to radio capability. I am also of the opinion that the "produced bombast" a band like Blackberry Smoke is not good! The timbre of the singer seems no longer so beautiful ... the authentic song material it is certainly not (although a song a la "One Horse Town" might be missing, but you would also no repetitions ;-)), but sometimes it is just better without "Star Producer" get along.
In short, good album, unfortunately only "wrong" produced! Nevertheless sympathetic 4 stars
