Customer Review

I will try in this review largely, so petty on the tablet (and the tablet mode. Not so much in combination with the keyboard) herumzumeckern, as much as I can and not too much to call what others have mentioned. Because of course there is criticism, but overall the Asus T100 FANTASTIC!
At the end I try something decision support for tablet seekers afford to.

-The Screen is definitely too dark for outdoor use in the sun.
-16: 9 format I find absurd. It offers simply too little space in height. Even if you take the tablet upright, so you have more of an example (down very long) website at a glance, the display is so narrow that you may not see the whole width of the page. At least 16:10, and more preferably 4: 3 formats are better for me. Plus point of 16: 9 are only the film capability and the reduced weight felt in the upright mode.
-The Protection Glass is "only" Soda Lime Glass, no higher quality Gorilla Glass. So not as scratch resistant as you are used to the might of top mobile phones.
-It Actually gives this bug that sometimes does not wake up the tablet from sleep mode (happened to me in 5 days once previously). Volume key + On button starts the tablet then new.
-The Anchorage in the keyboard dock is significantly shakier than for example the Asus Transformer Infinity. However, overall ok.
-The Internal memory or the option of memory expansion via Micro SD cards is rather slow. Here no illusions must give that data transmission rates at the approach of an SSD. Neither the one HDD, but should here at least access times faster than traditional hard drives. In practice, this looks so that the transfer of data or installing software really corrosive take long. But as soon as the data is there, the system is working very smoothly. Programs to the extent of eg Word start very quickly.
-64 GB internal memory are very tight for a Windows system (the 32GB version I do not want to think). In an Android tablet to get to about 32GB of free space still down halfway. Windows programs and especially games, however, have little remorse when they sometimes just include several GB. Naturally comes heavily on the user, but a total nervous such space limitations, of course.
-Speichergeschwindigkeit: Internal memory: Read - 143 MB / s, writing - 44.3 MB / s -> actually ok, but only 64GB
Unfortunately I have not found a tool that shows me the speed of my memory card with exFAT format (however, does the memory card with the exFAT format properly as "another hard drive". It is possible to install any programs on it, and from there run). However, I suspect that the micro SD memory is much slower. If someone has a qualified opinion about which file system you should use for the memory card, then please let me know.
-About Youtube abgespieltes 1080p material jerky. However, 1080p makes when the resolution of the tablets makes no sense. 720p is running properly. For fun I once 3 720p YouTube videos parallel the desktop browser (Chrome) run. Two go, from 3 captures the image (not the sound) to bucking. However, running xvid, mpeg4, etc. videos without any problems with 1080p (and even 60 fps) and even via WLAN from a network hard drive (total:. Not specially tested the wireless data rates can be seen, but for example, a Steam download ran 2.5 MB / sec, with the internet connection can actually more. So there seems to be the limit in conjunction with a Fritz box 7270 to lie)
-Noch An important drawback of all mobile Windows devices, the one concern should be: If you want to go by Tethering via its own mobile phone and its data plan online? Windows and related software is the data plan no spare bit. Android / iOS and corresponding apps are designed as frugal. In this respect, care should be taken from the outset that you (if possible) not allowed when installing / setting up software automatically perform updates (Note: This starts with setting up Windows 8.1)

Now to more Windows or software specific problems
-The Internet Explorer is very well adapted to touch (but of course is not an option, because a bunch of crap). Chrome, Firefox and Co. eg no support touch gestures for zoom spreading. The Windows world is simply not arrived right in the touch world.
-When the multitouch gestures was massively presented potential. Overall, the touch-screen operation is actually even quite good, the multitasking system even hervorrgend. However, there are for example no gestures with three or more fingers or gestures that are more complicated than typing or wiping with 1-2 fingers. Third-party programs create because so far, unfortunately, does not help. "Gesturekey" of "Gestureworks" promises to solve this, but the program is just totally useless. Please do not buy.
-There Are virtually no reasonable touch keyboard alternatives for Windows 8. The standard keyboard, although by no means bad, but lets word predictions or Swype functionality miss.
-Normal Desktop programs are just as convenient to use with a finger. Some "false clicks" are inevitable. On Tablets below 10 inches diagonal, it will probably really difficult.
-The Metro-surface is unnecessary in principle. Just as well you could have only the desktop and as usual put shortcuts to programs there (no problem, this meeting with your finger). The Metro interface has presented only imho unnecessarily screen space.
Some functions should really put Windows more accessible. I wish, for example, easier access to the Bluetooth settings.
-Man Noted in desktop applications time and again (though rarely) that one of the touch screen does not offer a reasonable alternative to service. To some applications makes sense to use it simply needs a keyboard and / or mouse. The lack of mouse control is most apparent when an application in any form is reliant on you float the mouse pointer over a specific location (Hover function for example, additional information / Tooltips). This gives the touch screen operation just not her. It would be fairly easy to solve. For example, there for Android ways to use the full touch screen as a touchpad (ie moving a cursor by using the touch screen wipes). That should install Microsoft definitely. If anyone knows a third-party app for that, just tell me.

Games:
-The gaming performance is not bad. Old games and graphically undemanding running already. The problem is the service. Even many point and click adventure of which you would think they were made for touch operation also often fail because of the missing mouse-over (hover) function.
-Of Course you have the possibility to extend the Tablet Live with keyboards, mice, game pads, and then really work a lot of games very well with it. Thus one has still less than casual games for Android / Apple, but by far more complex games.
-A Few examples: FTL was supposed to be good for touch, but is barely playable because of a lack of precision. Civilization V has even extra a touch mode works well. Here, unfortunately, extends the power of your tablet is not completely out, in order to play the game makes sense (is meant to be used for touch-enabled Ultrabook hardware). Dust: An Elysian Tail is an example of a fairly new, nice game that is outstanding, if you have connected a gamepad.

A few things that I liked particularly well:

- (Naturally) real desktop browser experience (just not as Android / Apple) with Flash.
-very low weight for the display size (525g). My previous Transformer Infinity was only 65g heavier, but my experience is in continuous use from about 450g each gram really for the convenience of importance (depending on your hand size and strength, of course, a difference).
-The microUSB port is actually capable host. This means that you can connect all possible with a USB OTG adapter. I tried it with a mouse, keyboard, USB stick and even the wireless adapter for XBOX 360 Controller. If everything goes.
-The Touch multitasking system is really great. In conjunction with the fleets operating speed, the tablet is thus superior for surfing and media consumption every Android / Apple Tablet.
-Einfachste Integration into an existing network with easy access to network resources. So no half-baked workarounds like Android or Apple.
-The Screen keyboard pops up not at once, as soon as a cursor in an input field (such as the example in Android does). At first I thought this would be a negative thing, because you have just always first needs to call the on-screen keyboard with a tap on the taskbar icon. However, I got used to it and now it is dear to me that the keyboard does not constantly unasked blocked half of the screen. Example: I open YouTube in the browser, so the cursor is positioned directly in the search box. On Android, the keyboard would pop up now directly. As a rule, I want to but do not, but would like to see all the YouTube page with my subscriptions and recommendations and select a video touchscreen.
-The New search function of Windows 8.1 is really good
-Bluetooth Mouse and keyboard (if you want to use the device as a living room PC or similar) work fine with it. Even my stereo Bluetooth headset runs fine.
-If You have switched from Android and misses some Android apps in the Windows Store, then you can emulate on the BlueStacks Android Player and has, in principle, at any time, an Android tablet with access to countless apps. "In principle," because during my overbred desktop rocket with BlueStacks has a very good Android experience, the T100 is probably too weak to even emulate "the competition" just at a decent speed.
- The 2GB memory had given me some concern and I really do not light the appliance. Currently cavort 10, additionally installed by myself, background programs such as antivirus, firewall, various Messenger, synchronization tools, etc. in the taskbar. So far, the tablet did not come in normal office and surf-operation to its limits. It would probably come up against limits when I research a session with 2 monitors and 3 browser windows, each with 10 tabs would (as on your desktop computer) hold. On a screen with 10 inches diagonal to get but I think not even to the idea of doing something. So the same problem as with the video performance described above. For what can be useful to carry out work with a tablet, the performance is sufficient absolutely. If someone plays with the idea to connect the tablet to an external monitor, then such information may be valuable. I would say: Connect monitor to seriously work (with many windows and programs) it: rather no. Connect As HTPC / Media Player to your TV: Absolutely.

Conclusion: If pure performance / processing / Performance / software you evaluated etc., lead to things like the dark screen clearly a 4/5 rating. However, considering the price of the whole package into consideration, then it is almost impossible here not to award 5 stars.
Very quickly, all-round compatibility, full Windows, operation and is at a price of well below the Android / Apple-middle class more productive than an Android / Apple Tablet despite not just touch-optimized desktop interface.

Buyer's Guide / alternatives:
First of all, I'd practically every student the T100 wholeheartedly recommend (as a second device for the university!). Portable typewriter, communications and entertainment center in a fabulous at a price. Compared to a laptop mainly attracts here the argument of the Instant-On / Off function. What I hated it when I have to shut down the laptop at the end of a lecture and install the thing unhurriedly 68 Windows updates needed.

Otherwise, the fundamental question arises, what you want from the device.
Will I play a lot of touch-optimized casual games? ---> Android / iOS
I want to play occasionally, but complex ("real") games? ---> T100
Will I read a lot of books and only occasionally surf / consume desktop / media? ---> 8 inch tablet. OS is almost does not matter.
Will I work on the move? Then the question how do mobile work and how "hard"? Is for my performance and mobile claims a Ultrabook more appropriate? Does this justify the added value with decreasing mobility for money?
Do I need more processing power than for Office (Photoshop, CAD, etc.)? ---> Ultrabook
I just need Office / surf, but that much / often and professionally? Then not the power, but rather the display size is critical. But how much more / pleasant I can at 11, 12, 13, 14 inch work?

Last but not least: Alternatives?
So that the non-quantitative completely runs out of control here, I will confine myself rather to Windows 8.1 alternatives.

-Since Would firstly the (possibly not yet available), also very cheap 8 inch á la Toshiba Encore, Dell Venue 8 Pro 8 to use Lenovo Ideapad Miix as pure eBook reader and to Metro Style Apps: Yes. In desktop mode, I am afraid that one gets serious "target issues" with your finger.

Atom Bay Trail based tablets: There are currently really only the Dell Venue 11 per (Atom version). A little wider (10.8 inches), a little bit sharper (FHD), a little bit faster (Atom Z3770 2.4GHz @), a bit heavier (770g), built-up digitizer (though not a good), extremely expensive Tastaturdock (direction 200), no office suite, 500 (without keyboard or stylus).
Actually, I would like to 11 had the Venue Pro, but Dell's pricing is (especially in view of the T100) just something outrageous. Apart from the high price and the heavy weight the 11 Venue Pro is however a serious competitor for the T100.

-Ultrabook Technology in tablet format:
Again, the most significant variants of the Dell Venue Pro with 11 Core i3, i5, 120GB + SSD, 4GB + RAM. Then, of course, Microsoft Surface 2 Pro and the Sony Vaio Tap 11 with similar specifications. In short: higher price (about 1000), higher weight (800g - 1kg), no fixed Tastaturdock like the T100. Here you just go imho too many compromises (especially considering the price). Sure it has a relatively large amount of power but how much power needs a approx 11 inch touch device without reasonable (or extremely expensive) keyboard? My recommendation: At these prices you can actually come off better if you buy a low-priced Ultrabook and if necessary even to bring a T100.

I hope I could help.

Update: I've found a free tool to simulate the touch screen, so to speak, a touchpad (or trackpad). Works great. Thus one has at any time in addition to the touch screen one way to control the mouse pointer very accurately and thus to benefit from mouse-over effects. Works great in Windows, for games (especially such as Point and Click Adventures) However, only when the game is running in windowed mode. The tool is called: "Touch Mouse Pointer" and is actively developed.
