Although I have not bought a ABUS lock on Amazon, but I would like to ABUS padlocks share my experience anyway. I bought about 25 years ago, two ABUS padlocks 45/40 (formerly known as 116/40). One was always in basements as a door shut in use and performs today easily the service, without any maintenance, just like that. The other is for 13 years from the second basement castle (I had temporarily two basement) been recalled to the toolshed lock. Since then, it now depends always out on the shed door and is all exposed to weathering. The external appearance does have over the many years outdoors something suffered (the brass color has become much darker), but the ABUS lock is functioning properly (sometimes I have some household oil instilled), no rust, no terminals, key in and open, handle down to. More extreme test conditions are hardly possible, because just can not be taken into account the long time line for most Test. ABUS = indestructible. The extent to which today's ABUS padlocks still have the same quality, of course I can not judge. However, I am convinced that there will be no significant differences. Currently (since October 2011) I use anyway another new ABUS 45/40 for the bicycle chain mounting outdoors. Former result: looks like new and perfectly!
