The device is eigentlicht TOP! Have it connected via firewire to the Mac and operate it in Raid5 mode with 4 * 1.5TB hard drives. But that's also the hook. If you have Raid5 namely use either 3 or 5 plates, otherwise the write throughput is too low. Habs just measured: Write about 17MB / s read and 50 MB / s. A comparable USB2 disk brought it to my computer to 31 MB / s read and write 38 MB / s.

Maybe it's better to look for a unit with 5 slots, or you just have to give up a slot if you want to use Raid5 effectively.

But the positives should also be mentioned. The unit is very well made and extremely quiet. You hear it only when disk access and then it comes naturally also on the boards of. When restarting it takes a little time, because all disks are powered up sequentially.
