The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (video game)

Customer Review

... Also Zelda's in it. (Attention, this is a comparatively long review)
Zelda - Phantom Hourglass is the first Nintendo DS game that I bought because I'm actually a big fan of the series. This "special" title but was the first that made me suspicious.
What you would expect a Zelda on the go such as the imaginative Link's Awakening or visually beautiful Minish Cap; But what you get is a graphically probably very nice, but playfully gruesome game.

This I will explain course:
The Zelda series is distinguished for Zelda 3 (A Link to the Past) by certain properties that make during the game variety. Because many different items, of which there are in Phantom Hourglass only 7 were (10 if you sign and drink to take) and the numerous dungeons, each of which has a unique element itself, such as the well-known titles (Ocarina of Time) the forest temple, you could turn in to the Fire Temple with the murderous doors and the exemption of Goron, the water temple with the adjustable water level, the Shadow Temple with its illusions and ultimately the Spirit Temple with light-based puzzles. (This could be now list for pretty much every game in the series, but I think you understand what I mean)
So Each dungeon has its own logic to solve puzzles and thus calls for an own mindset. In phantom hourglass but this is not the case. Not only you have to the Temple of the Sea King in the course of the game 7 (seven) times to visit, but the rest of the dungeons are playful identical. That would not be so bad, there were challenging puzzles or the like, however, to see 60% of the puzzle as follows:
1. Locked Door
2. A heap switch
3. Stone Tablet / plate on which the order to actuate the switch is set.
4. They make you feel super smart, because you have seen through this difficult puzzles and the door opens.

However, this is not the only shortcoming playfulness. Continue.

To control:
It controls almost everything with the stylus, which is indeed a nice idea. However, this brings with it so its inaccuracies. For example, our little link every now and then do not know whether he should smite with the sword of the enemy, or to run him in the mouth / in its sharp claws. And again would be no problem, if that would be his only actions, but using the stylus you can also roll over the ground where you draw tiny circles on the screen.
Because you always have the stylus on the screen while running, since otherwise has his hand in front of the screen and link moves very slowly, so often smaller direction changes are interpreted as "Circle" and link rolls off (very annoying).
Travelling by boat over the world will also work with the stylus, but not dynamic, but to draw a path, where the boat is followed as if on rails. With each small change of course pauses the game and you have to draw a new path on the map, which makes the whole trip very haltingly. In direct contrast, the item selection, while also happens via the stylus, but problems entirely different nature brings with it: In this case, you tap on the item menu and then selects an item from. At this point the game but not paused, as was customary in any other Zelda title, but it is the attacks bystanders opponents defenseless while building up the item menu (takes only a fraction of a second, still bothers immensely), you responded , has seen the position of the desired item on the touch screen and typed it. A simple break at this point rather than when traveling would have been no problem, right?

The entire game looks more like a trade show demo for the features of the DS, as a by-planned adventure, which is not least confirmed by the use of the microphone. This is used to start very nice to extinguish candles by blowing into the microphone, then worse, but by inside screaming need for a woman behind a door there to make attention to themselves and eventually weak unwisely must shout at a dealer because this says " I'll sell you the grappling hook only if you scream loud. All the louder you yell, the cheaper it is. " Oh, and in a later dungeon known from older 2D titles "Pols Voice" enemies appear (lagomorphs Monster), which can be overcome more easily this time, while shouting into Micro.
...
Okay, we'll call us back to mind that this is a * * HANDHELD game. So I'm sitting in the packed train and scream at my DS? I do not think that way.

Motivations to play the game after the last boss further does not exist. One could (as it were the "innovative" version of Skultullas or spirits souls) collect stupid Courage / Power / Wisdom gems, although this one merely give bonuses to attack, defense, etc., you do not need, as normal opponents (almost all) with a blow of the sword (or rather one touch with the stylus) are defeated. Then there is in good Zelda style Although a trade, but you get at the end is not the magic magnifier (Link's Awakaning), a better sword (Oracle components and Ocarina of Time) or useful masks (Majora's Mask), but ... * drumroll *... a postcard! With this report you can get more embellishments for his boat by driving between islands and a merchant ship back and forth and the mail boxes abklappert.

Conclusion:
+ As I said, the graphics are quite nice (upscale N64 level)
+ Zelda

- All the "fun" is already played them through in about 2 to 3 days.
-This Is also the first Zelda, which has to collect any usual since Zelda 3 Heart parts, but only whole heart (which not even many) as the very first Zelda. In my opinion, you would have only 2 times to visit the Temple of the Sea King and the game instead can stretch with heart parts.
- Control may be innovative, but only suitable for Mini Games
- Microphone bellowing
- No unique dungeons
- No real mystery
- Opponents to easy
- Permanent backtracking to the Temple of the Sea King

So, a nice game if you want to show someone what a DS draufhat so, but not a full Zelda. It will still buy (Zelda fans have since some Sammelwahn on, as I know from me) and try the game nice to talk, because they have, after all, paid for fans. People who do not with the number on his hat, but should leave it alone!
