I now have almost 450 pictures snapped with this lens. Before that I had been the Olympus prime lenses with 45 and 75 mm. So I am a bit spoiled when it comes to image quality. The 17er is now to broaden my "fleet" down ... And what can I say. One can absolutely not fault the picture quality, the amazing sharpness of the two said longer focal lengths but it does not reach. Unfortunately. In broad daylight I can - as seen on the Retina Display of my MacBooks - actually notice any difference to the 14-42mm kit lens. With one exception: Backlight. I had in my test shots fortunate that the sun as light shone through the clouds, sometimes more, sometimes less. All shots that I snapped almost directly opposite this muted sun, madness have simply become! Despite the bright background of the sky the foreground is not burned out and rich in detail and does not disappear in the darkness. Toll!
When shooting at night, of course you clearly notice the high light intensity. I snapped in fairly dark corners (in a city - so of course already still lit) and I did not even begin thinking about how to stand, everything is knackescharf out of hand at a maximum ISO of 1600th
Another advantage: speed of the autofocus ...
All in all I give a buy recommendation. If the part is not so ridiculously expensive, especially in comparison to top-line 45er, I would certainly give it 5 stars. But twice as expensive with less "wow factor"? And again without sun visor? But I draw from a star ...
