The intermissions of Death (Paperback)

Customer Review

José Saramago's novel begins with "the next day, no one died."
In one country (unnamed) without sea and with crown, in a continent (no name), 10 million people are facing a conundrum: nobody dies between their borders. And this will upset the form to think of everyone.
On one, they think they have conquered death, because it is the only country where one can think of eternal life. In other countries, one dies as is her custom.
Problems arise when the church gets involved, because without death there is no ressurection, so no religion, funeral agencies also mix (Bankruptcy approach), the entourage moribund s 'mix also, because if you do not die, we are always in the process of which is discouraging for everyone, even for those who want to die, insurance get involved ...
Nobody understands anything ... and it gets worse when neighboring countries receive moribund caravan die soon crossed borders illegally and are buried in foreign lands ... but what?
The Maphia (with PH to differentiate themselves from the other mafia), asks extravagant prices to do the dirty work because nobody wants to be accused of killing a family member, even if they are dying ...
Until the day Death (many months later), itself bones and blood, wrote a letter to the attention of all ...

* Always great! I love Saramago! His irony, his style, his strange ideas ... all is an explosive mixture that works. This book makes us ask the question of the century, when many are thinking about immortality is how life without death? It would be a dream for some, but the problems that come with, no one thought ... except Saramago! And we only nod because it is
not stupid ... it's not at all stupid!
The history of this country unnamed mixes with the story of the death and its great fun, even if it's a slightly serious topic ... hmmm ...
