It is caught early on by this fascinating thriller that is devouring frenzy, and then suddenly BOOM briefly switches to something more fantastic. We messed up, we no longer understand anything, and then immediately we rebalance the author in a classic thriller still striking, eventually switching over completely in something else.
And there is the haunting power of Stephen King, or the colossal Imajica Clive Barker, and vortex loose us more to the end.
I can understand that a strict amateur detective / thriller ends up aback, even disappointed, but for other readers, do not sulk your happiness! Me, it's simple, I had not known that deep pleasure of reading since the 90's when I discovered the first novels of S. King or slap engage Imajica, already cited.
In short, a real good time offered by the Super 8 editions, which cares you a slap, much like Sonatine had done for example with The Bourbon Kid, in a completely different genre.
