All reviews must always be aware that it is a telescope of 50 Euro class and has a 1000 euros device correspondingly more power. But for 50 euros you can not go wrong. There are no alternatives in this price range in my opinion.
After unpacking it is a matter of a minute to throw a glance through the telescope. You need to configure anything. The supplied eyepieces provide magnifications of 15x (20mm) and 75 times (4 mm), which is certainly enough to get you started. The picture is really sharp, although you will buy in the long run ensure higher quality eyepieces. Please do not be blinded by insane information from other manufacturers. First, even provide binoculars with 10 times magnification breathtaking impressions and for the second straight city conditions often leave no much higher magnification.
What can you see?
The small focal length the FirstScope is recommended for most large-scale objects as diverse and large fog -halbwegs lichtstarke- galaxies. M31 (the Andromeda Galaxy) is clearly visible (even in town). The same applies to the Orion Nebula and M13, an impressive globular clusters. What you can see / find, however, also depends on the environment. The darker the sky, the better. Large planets make the Firstscope also not from too great challenge. Jupiter and the four large moons are easily recognizable, as Saturn with its rings. Under good conditions, Jupiter rings stand out clearly. Mind you, wobble-free! Uranus and Neptune are certainly a number too high. But they also make on larger devices only little fun.
Do I need the optional viewfinder and accessories?
A very clear yes and no. We first used the 20 eyepiece, focuses on the subject in the center and then take the 4p, you quickly to target. However, one must also find the object first with the 20s, which is not so easy just at the beginning of the reversed image. The viewfinder can simplify the search. But it is not indispensable. The additional eyepiece can not hurt in any case. Although this is not necessarily equivalent to the optimum.
Who is the Firstscope directed?
The telescope was elected Product of International Year of Astronomy and is sure to right. Never before has a serious entry-effective and affordable for everyone really. Parents and grandparents are the FirstScope gift definitely correct. Who does not want to spend the same triple, can strike without hesitation. For families, the device is. My son is four and now fully infected. You can place it on a low table, opening up even the smallest breathtaking impressions of the moon or the major planets.
Whether a device is good or not, you will quickly find the second-hand market. Cheap loose telescopes there is used a dime a dozen. The FirstScope or his brother (Skywatcher Heritage 76) one finds used only very rarely. Who's reserves of Use.
Maybe not interesting for everyone: The mount is ideal for larger (short!) Telescopes. I have my Mak102 / 1300 on the rocker box as bench mounting and am quite happy with it. See Image.
SUPPLEMENT: For my brother, I have bought a device as a gift and have experienced a negative surprise. The new one has a more than significant aberrations (coma). All objects have a kind of tail. It seems well to give significant manufacturing tolerances. Anyone who does not receive a clear image, should think about an exchange! Functioning devices are really amazingly good!
