The following positives can be reported for 2/35:
- The most striking feature of 2/35 with respect to the 1.8 / 35DX is certainly the possibility of using not only on DX cameras, but also on analog and digital full frame cameras. In a "mixed" Camera Park or if you want to keep open the full format option, therefore making the 2/35 more sense than the 1.8 / 35DX.
- The 2/35 has smaller dimensions make it an 1.8 / 35DX and therefore can often squeeze in a corner of the camera bag, in which no longer fits into the 1.8 / 35DX.
- Equipped with spindle drive 2/35 focuses faster than the AF-S-driven 1.8 / 35DX (camera body with mechanical AF drive required - otherwise manual mode is required).
- The 2/35 allows for greater magnification than the 1.8 / 35DX (25 instead of 30cm minimum distance), making it almost a "half a Macro Lens", which can intensify by using the PK11A.
A disadvantage of the 2/35 is its relatively soft figure at maximum aperture in particular in the border area in relation to the open sharper 1.8 / 35DX; closed by one stop, the imaging performance of both lenses are similar in practice. The 1/3 EV higher luminous intensity of 1.8 / 35DX opposite the 2/35, however, do not fall in the face of high-ISO performance of today's DX cameras consequence. Who is in this focal length uncompromising arrives on light intensity, which should take up the unfortunately outrageously expensive AF-S 1,4 / 35G, the design options are better than with the other two 35ern especially with this light intensity. Who does not, however, want to spend 1 1/2 "giant" for the standard focal length and to whom it matters a priority in this design option (Nikon is applying the 1.8 / 35DX with this design option), which is the AF-S 1,4 / 50G highly to heart, with the with DX cameras can make better than all three 35ern - and for reasonable price (s see also my review for 1,4 / 50G (*****) on Amazon.).
The handy little AF 2/35 (D) receives from me 4 stars because of its universal applicability; 1 star deduction is available for the soft open aperture (to assess s. Also, last paragraph). The higher price of 2/35 with respect to the 1.8 / 35DX is due to the larger image circle and therefore the more universal applicability, and thus no shortage.
Postscript: The imaging characteristics stated above were determined by Nikon D200 and Fuji S5Pro. For now published 16.2 million pixel DX cameras, the overall positive judgment regarding the imaging performance of the 2/35 applies only to a limited extent. There, in the resolution - especially in the border area - the 1.8 / 35DX not hold a candle! If you are looking for these cameras a 35er, which is also usable in the full format, should pick up the (unfortunately much more expensive) 1.4 / 35. For the imaging performance of the 2/35 to the 16.2 MP APS-C sensors can give only 2-3 star !! Therefore, I have corrected my vote on generous 3 stars.
2. postscript for FX Shooter: Who 1.4 / 35 is too expensive for its full-frame camera, which I rate now (at least for the higher than 12 MP resolution cameras) not for 2/35, but for comparatively cheapy 1.8 / 35 DX (!). that is high-resolution and in the large and medium openings only a slight Eckenvignettierung pictured leaves, which can be eliminated in the software, when the iris from 11 black corners, so that approximately 38 mm focal length can be used. Owner of the D800 have a particularly convenient solution by setting your camera on the 1,2er Crop format. You will receive with this DX lens on an impeccable 24-MP file with 42mm focal length. This saves at the same time, the 50-lens!
3. postscript: Meanwhile, the AF-S 1,8 / 35G FX has appeared, which changes the approach radically. After that is for FX-photographer, and for FX and simultaneously DX photographers unconditional recommendation to look at the optically excellent new lens closer (see my review in this regard: *****). For DX-photographers who do not plan to upgrade in the near future on FX, the inexpensive and yet very good AF-S 1,8 / 35G DX is the right choice. And who should now still for the old, comparatively inexpensive (as measured by the new -FX) AF 2/35 (D) interest that is needed and very conveniently available without trouble for the rest, because it is produced since 1988? The one who is looking for a on the dimensions of very small, especially used very low-cost, full-frame compatible 35er and thereby is not or rarely rely on the sharpness moderately weaker early openings.
