"Low" - the opposite of "High" is one of my favorite albums. There is no other album, what such mood spreads. It is better than its rougher successor "Heroes". This album was recorded by the way not in Germany but largely in France. Subtle it conveys a type of depression that repeatedly in an optimistic conclusion flows through a lot of heat ... It's an incredible sensitivity in the often very direct arrangements. In "low" flows everything in a kind of mourning - the security not only promises - but donates. The first page contains -The texts - says the fatality of life from - the second side forms a cocoon - by the pain is embedded .... A strange album - and who can- engage in it which it has on an important point an enormous amount to give ... About the overall context of Bowie's instrumental work I have in my book David Bowie - Station to Station: written borderline motives of some pop stars.
