The research was sobering: barely folding phones. Why flip phone? Because you can put it safely in a pocket, have to have that a key is pressed continuously or that turns off the key lock without worry. The keys and the display is protected.
The telephone must not have tethering, so a modem function for the PC. In order to go to the computer online can. But not wireless, sd. Cable, wg. security (online banking). Clamshell + Tethering? There's almost nothing at all on the market.
Perhaps because the telecom industry tethering is an eyesore? The rather sell extra-SIMs and data plans. But with tethering the Little Surfer, a favorable data packet to the telephone tariff to take, thus saving a lot of money, without compromising on functionality. The Razr incidentally offers HSDPA / UMTS, that is fast enough for YouTube videos.
Does it look so alone with respect to these two requirements gloomy enough in the market out there is zappenduster if you want some typical Razr V3xx properties:
Very strong, very good quality.
Very good voice quality.
Long battery life.
Short beeping in a few minutes distance if call is missed (ideal if you do not always plugged in the phone, sd. Eg coming in from the garden).
Tangibility (brushed aluminum) and dimensions.
Since I could not find a single device that has this property, and because I had the hope that I can transfer the settings from the old phone on's new with the Motorola software that decision but was relatively easy: a new Razr V3xx, although the Shipping costs to Austria offered "goods Hammer" with approx. 16 Euro are quite steep.
Mutters old phone is a "3", ie a "branded", but unlocked. This is a no "branding". The menu looks visually a little different, but the functionality is all exactly the same.
The Motorola Software "Motorola Phone Tools" that comes with a CD left, easily install under Win7. That did not go with the old MPT.
Unfortunately, the software does not allow for complete backup and transfer all the phone settings. Ringtones, appearance must be adjusted manually. Also SMS templates I could not be transferred. But the contacts I was able to flawlessly transfer, what was the most important thing.
I think that the smart phone market saturation now more and more users will find that they neither get along well nor from handling so need a smartphone, SD. That a normal phone with modem function and looooong battery life is better, cheaper and also much more productive solution (nothing kills productivity as much as an always accessible online to be a slave).
And because the quality of the Razr probably marked the peak quality of mobile phones, I could imagine that a new edition of this "old" phone, nearly 10 years after its launch would even again be a small success.
