In the Middle Ages have now been immortalized over the years some composers. Be it James Horner with 'Braveheart', Hans Zimmer with 'King Arthur', Harry Gregson-Williams 'Kingdom of Heaven', Marc Streitfeldstraße with 'Robin Hood' or Christian Henson with 'Black Death'. Each of these works has its own unique charm and each can be heard in his own way. Lorne Balfe is the second to none. His 'Ironclad' has its own strengths. It will be found in the music no battle bombast, as in 'Braveheart', no time mystically tinged moments, like 'King Arthur'. Balfe goes to the issue of the Middle Ages, as Marc Streitfeldstraße and Christian Henson; more on a rudimentary realistic way. His music is very balanced, dark, threatening to capture the siege of Rochester Castle musically. As background music while reading, for example it is super. But there in 'Ironclad' but it is not just about a siege, but also the battle for the castle, me a little more dynamism lacking. Apparently, they simply packed the times exciting, threatening, dramatic pieces on the CD and the other omitted, thus one does not naturally have the chance to benefit from Balfes complete work, which is a shame and justifies for me 1 star deduction ,
