As for me, really everything works without a hitch (also VDSL50) nor do I insert my Fritzbox as a media server, a 7490 would actually not have been necessary for me. Due to a very good offer, the (supposedly) full compatibility and greater performance reserves I have but then decided for 7490.
The takeover of the settings of the Fritzbox 7390 went smoothly. Merely all DECT handsets had to be re-coupled to the system. Amazingly, the 7490 showed me a higher DSL line capacity to (7390: concise 80,000; 7490: over 90,000). Of course, this did not affect DSL50 - even with 7490 the DSL operation was fast and stable. This also was true of the DECT phones (simple Siemens DECT handsets in Eco mode). The connection was as clear to us as before in 7390 and also in the range are stable, I noticed no difference.
In the Fritz box 7390 the 2.4GHz WiFi had proved considerably faster than the 5GHz network with me. This was also the case with the Fritz box 7490. Since I have no peer with newer Wlanstandard, I could not test the 7490 / use here the potential benefits. Unfortunately I had to find that the connection speed with my existing equipment of 7490 has always been slower than in 7390. Of course, 7490 was mounted on the same spot on the wall like the 7390. But I got with the 7490 mostly only "a 100 MBit / s connection - with the 7390 it was between 150 and 200 Mbit / s The speed of data transmission. was actually slower by 50% in 7490.
In the 5 GHz WLAN, however, I can not detect any differences, which could however be because that here already in 7390 the normally connects s were below 100Mbit /.
The next disappointment came at the first pressure test. I quickly realized that the USB remote connection is not implemented in 7490. The online documentation from 13/11/2013 promises a subsequent delivery here. Currently - ie about 10 weeks later it does not yet exist and, unfortunately, also in support nothing concrete is known.
So it was no longer printing with the 7490 on my laser from our various computers possible.
Supplement 10/2014: since the promise in the Online Documentation that the USB remote connection is available again, have passed more than 10 months.
Normally, a good support is one of the strengths of AVM. Unfortunately that is not so in this case. Not only that, the promised Funnktion has still not been replenished. Instead, the text has been changed in the online document and is now called only: "We are currently reviewing whether we can provide the function USB remote connection in an upcoming FRITZ OS update for the FRITZ! Box." From a firm commitment now so a spongy was "maybe" ...
Slightly longer it lasted until I noticed the last problem. As already described, I have connected multiple analog phones and fax to the Fritz box. Of course, the fax is one of the two TAE sockets. All other telephones are connected in parallel to the other TAE socket.
Of course, I realized that such a feature is not provided and is therefore not guaranteed. In 7390, however, it worked without any problems. In 7490, unfortunately, the power has been reduced to the telephone jack (confirmed to me also of support), which is why the extension phones not ringing.
Certainly moves the 7490 here in normal requirements of TAE standards and therefore this behavior is also no fault of the newest Fritz box. But my requirement is thus still unfit.
Now how do I get to my review:
The Fritz box 7390 is worth a great device and definitely 5 star.
The lack of USB remote connection and the slower (with me) WLAN Costs a star. For my analog phone problem of course I can pull off anything.
Actually, I'd like to pull off another half a star, since in my view, the premium over the 7390 is too high - but then I had stayed in 4 stars ...
So I'm going to get me but now a second 7390 as a reserve unit - the 7490, I returned ...
