Brenner:
It's just a ring burner available. This one is in the indirect Grillerei or the low-temperature cooking at 110-130 ° C somewhat limited, can but manage here, by the barbecue food either on a warming rack (at Q220 I use the warming rack of compatriot Pantera; whether the however when Q2200 fits I can not say for sure, because not tested; by eye but it should just as well as going in Q220) with more distance to the burner cooked or a stainless steel roaster is liquid on the wire rack, about a grill sets and on the roast sets. Or one buys the now newly available Heat Shield, which should make possible indirect grilling. Obs works I do not know, because not tested.
The burner distributes heat well and evenly. The ignition works reliably.
The Grill:
Is now divided into two parts, in contrast to its predecessor, Q220 and fortunately still made of cast iron! For quick steak between optimal, because the rust is bull hot and missed the grilled food a beautiful branding.
Everything takes longer as roasts, shanks, chicken legs, etc. but also thick raw sausage should decouple from the cast-iron grate, otherwise there is a danger of burning. Here helps a little oven rack, you simply laying on the cast-iron grate and hence the food to be grilled does not come into direct contact with the cast iron.
Grilling is otherwise on all Qs always a breeze so here also the new Q2200. Beef steaks as simply oil the well, add salt, from each side about 2.5 minutes at full power Angrillen (do not move the steaks, otherwise it gets the grill marks nix), then from the warming rack and depending Gargradwunsch 5-10 min Tighten leave with smallest burner stage. Now even pepper (only then because the pepper otherwise burns), finished.
The dichotomy of the grill grate I find handy. First, easier to clean the grate and secondly, so one side of the grate by the optional and acquired Griddle (griddle) to be replaced. The had to lie on the grate with its predecessor.
By an employee of the company. Weber I could learn that in the enamel of the grates of the Q-series in 2014 supposedly a new method was used, which is to make the coating more durable than its predecessor. Visually I have now no difference can determine the durability and I lack the long-term experience.
The Lid:
Is also the Q2200 high enough that even thick pieces such as roasts etc. fit underneath. The thermometer, however, also suffers from the new model under the usual cover Thermometer disease. Those things just never go exactly and always show too much or too little. But you do not need anyway, after some time one has to bow and feel out and can easily tell from the position of the gas regulator about how the heat in the grill is. And the approximate orientation fits there already.
The side shelves:
Are also the Q2200 still quite limp, and I have the impression that they are a bit more stable than its predecessor. But may be only because the Q2200 was tested flammneu and has shown no signs of fatigue. Much stop it, more than a plate of two steaks or 5 sausages, I would not still.
The chassis:
Is beautifully stable because nothing wobbles.
The 11 kg gas bottle must, however, as its predecessor, behind or standing next to the grill (I was also so by the company Weber confirmed by telephone). It is however obscured by a shutter in the chassis, which has failed in my opinion better than its predecessor. But is always just pure optics and can, if necessary, be omitted easily. Whether 5 kg bottle can now stand on the grid floor of the car / should / would / should, I do not conclusively say. I did not try.
Handling:
The grill has a reasonable working height.
All parts (except for the table) make a very stable, high-quality impression and haptics also invite you to tackle problems.
The cleaning of the grill is very easy: burn after grilling, brush, Oil (I use to the Optima spray oil), clean or replace grease drip tray, ready. A thorough deep cleaning 2x a year is also quite easy, because let all parts quite easily expand. As grease drip tray I recommend the way on aluminum trays for food packaging (China snack, the things with the cardboard, s. My reviews) dodge. The only cost a fraction of the Weber shells and suck 100%. It really is a disposable product.
Accessories:
Barbecues can be alone with the grill and a gas cylinder. A useful way of my experience with the predecessor to the following accessories, which one should acquire the same with:
- Good barbecue tongs
- Good grill brush (the triangle-shaped brush of Weber makes with good services)
- Cover for the grill
- Possibly Bottle Cover (because of the appearance, otherwise no function)
- Spray oil for the pan support care (I take that from Optima; application see my local review)
- A spatula for scraping the bottom part
CONCLUSION:
------------
My impression is that it does not really concerns with the Q2200 with a new model compared to the Q220. Only the now divided Grill is a truly change, the rest is minimal cosmetics on the optics.
The price is Weber typically high, but already acceptable in comparison to the quality of the competition.
Overall, the Q2200 gets me exactly the same rating as its predecessor, namely good 4 star and a buy recommendation.
However, a switch for Q220 owners not worthwhile in my opinion.
