Hereafter the battery life compared with the X8 refers to the same parameters (500Hz scanning 2000dpi) - 250dpi I found useless, with 1000dpi I noticed no significant improvement.
Good:
- Standard AA NiMH rechargeable battery (x1) can be used, the change is somewhat tricky (adjustable backrest must be removed)
- Ergonomics at Palm Grip was with me comfortable thanks to adjustable back height, pull back and interchangeable Wings OK
- The Klickfuntion of interchangeable "Wings" can be locked by lock button at the bottom, then there's no false clicks
- Slides well large Teflon surfaces
- Charging station stands firmly on the table, because nothing wobbles
- Well-programmable number of DPI and DPI stages
- I found pleasant haptics, rough matte plastic as the X8
not so great:
- The on-screen display (a type of LED overlay on the screen) at the DPI change worked in only sporadically
- Back setting with latching casts doubt on longevity and is fiddly to use (I have not touched by time adjustment)
- Turn on / off badly solved: hold five seconds both top buttons down below the scroll wheel (why ever off su?)
- Standby time be programmable, the mouse wakes but only with difficulty from their sleep again
- Large Teflon surfaces accumulate dirt on the joints to the floor
Bad:
- Battery life - without manual switching on and off the mouse was discharged with me the next day (the X8 keeps one week)
- "Phantom signals": resting on the table or even in the cradle, I found the computer overnight from standby woken before - obviously believes the mouse to have been moved. The problem has never been on the main X8.
- Account-forced (just annoying and bring me no added value - I use the mouse does not regularly attend more than 1 computer and will then necessarily assume Settings
Fatal:
Decisive for the return after a few weeks use was that when you press the left mouse button, a loud creak that did not come from the microswitch (!) - It did not work with a mouse at this price point.
At the end of the six-year-old SideWinder X8 must be retrieved from the cellar - if anyone knows or remainders an alternative to her ...
