Style and Writing: 4/5
ADB's pure vintage juice! I did not find as flamboyant as in the First Heretic (must say that it is so epic bouqin ...), but it's still very good. The descriptions are quite complex without becoming heavy, events happened very well, without confusion despite the flashback. Brief happiness to read!
Interest Fluffique: 4/5
Huge, we learn a lot, both on the current situation of the legion (the schism between those who succumbed to chaos and radical supporters of the "old school" intolerant of corruption). The flashback also are very interesting even if we would like to learn even more about the dark nights of Heresy ... But it will be in suites or hopefully in a future volume of HH the dedicated Eighth Legion. I do not want spoiler but the decadence of Nights Lords is very well explained, with all the consequences and reasons of their treason ... We feel the special status of renegades "out of chaos" original of this legion, and I have admit that it is very attractive as a philosophy.
Personal rating: 5/5
I loved it, it's simple I devoured quickly, thirsty to read more every time I had to put the book ... I look forward to the other 2 volumes vf, and I wish ardently see a volume of HH on this legion. It's simple before reading this book I was quite skeptical about the background of the Night Lords, I had a little trouble with their status "renegades but not too much", but also with their historical: at the end of a Primarch roller that lets kill, and his son rabid sadness ... In the end I found it quite childish (add to that the Batman ears on helmets ^^).
But after reading this book completely changed, all my doubts are cleared. Having a better understanding of their history, their motivations, habits and character ... I have come to love them, as I said, to truly love them! This legion is really apart and I fell totally hooked! Last thing: Talos is my new hero, and it is rare that I am much attached to a character in a novel BL (apart Loken).
Final note: 17/20
So good score for me since I was not particularly a fan of this legion at the base. The book is very good, the great ADB which radically changed me to comment on the Night Lords! Frankly go ahead, you will not regret it!
