In the past 5 years have accompanied me to the mobile phone several smartphone. Looking for a new device, I realized that the current trend of ever-increasing device does not turn me on. The use of my hand negligent various apps and other typical smartphone functions do their further for deciding again zuzulegen a classic mobile phone. My conditions were that the simplest possible use system, good voice quality, a sufficient battery usage, e-mail capability, not a touch screen and the design of a classic and handy phone. These conditions met pretty good on the announced in February 2013. Nokia 301 on which I've been waiting until the release in May.
Are my requirements and expectations met?
Overall, I can answer this question with "Yes". First the good stuff: The S40 System of Nokia has hardly changed in recent years, which is a positive development. It is clearly laid out and does not look cluttered. Essential functions such as making phone calls, write text messages, manage contacts, or view the calendar is super out of hand and is clearly displayed on the 2.4 inch display. It is also amazing that there are functions that do not even have the most modern smartphones. Especially useful I find the alarm clock that works even when switched off. Even with WhatsApp and Facebook offers mobile current applications that are otherwise looks more on smartphones antrifft.Das phone really smart. Except for the keyboard of the rest of the plastic housing is matt. It has a decent size and shape, can be safely and comfortably with one hand and simply feels good. The display also has a good luminosity and sufficient viewing angle. I like (compared to Nokia Asha 206) on the keyboard, the keys directly abut one another and thereby are also slightly larger. The pressure point feels good and the click is not too noisy or creaky. Only the quadrilateral Auswahlpad has not always a clear pressure point. The Internet capability can not compete with smartphones, but also what it does not want, of course. The camera is very good for this class of device. E-mail, calendar and contacts can be easily synchronized via UMTS for example with "Mail for Exchange". Speaking of synchronization: With the PC application "Nokia PC Suite" (version 7.1.180.94) can manage, etc. on the PC contrary to some other reviews contacts, messages, calendar entries, music, videos. The connection to the PC is of course easy via USB and not cumbersome via Bluetooth.
Now to a more neutral aspect: the battery life. Of course, the manufacturer specifies more standby hours, as it can really make the device under real condition. I have permanently activates the data connection for email and WhatsApp and phone occasionally (maybe 30 minutes per day) or written messages. At night I have the phone out in principle. In order to reach a battery life of about 5 days. That's a total of course no value, but under these usage load absolutely bearable for me and (of course to be expected) improvement to any smartphone.
What I unfortunately not quite suit you, the voice quality and the speaker quality when making calls. I feel as though loud enough, but too deep and dull. I'm used to from my previous phones else. Because it sounded Although quieter (than the person would be further away), but clear. But that is my subjective impression - a colleague found the quality to be good.
In short
Per
+ Super design and great workmanship
+ Simple and stable system
+ USB port for charging and data transfer
+ Internet capability (E-mail, WhatsApp)
+ Good and great for this mobile phone display size
+ PC synchronization and mass storage capability
+ Ordinary camera
Neutral
° battery life - less than competing models, but adequate
Contra
- Voice quality is a bit too dull for me
Conclusion
I'll keep the phone despite the unusual-sounding voice quality for me very much, because overall it has adequately met my needs. I would recommend it unreservedly and hope that I could move in a somewhat better light the general poor (by the previous ratings) image of the Nokia 301 again.
