Chapter One (CD)

Customer Review

In terms of pop feminine, the English will always have a leg up on the rest of the world .... By the time the American general public plebiscite all four titles a superb EP "old school" Meghan Trainor ( No. 1 on Billboard for two months), England made a similar welcome to a whole album which is in the highest tradition of British pop. That's saying something!

HENDERSON Ella, a young singer-songwriter eliminated from X Factor UK in 2012, a lot of dust. I know nothing of it but a few video clips have impressed me this summer ('Ghost' and 'Glow') and then I came across 'Hard Work': a title whose stunning sixties effluvium you pick the right heart. With 'Hard Work' is not only the melody that you caught up in his high-fashion look "blue-eyed soul"; it is also the voice, almost uncovered, which inevitably leads you to go listen to the whole album. That's when we fall off, as stunned: such a thing in 2014 ... Of course, we will not fail to make connections with the shock of Adele ADKINS single 'Chasing Pavements' (2008! ) and first album ('19') ... But I am among those who have not been overwhelmed by the whole phenomenon Adele. Despite the worldwide success of her second album ('21') and its Blu-ray live, there are some titles that do not pass and vocal effects "soul-gospel" very "black american diva" who touch me not from a wonderful English singer but overly strength nature. With Ella Henderson is actually quite similar question musical genre, but it's also another matter singing technique question: homogeneous timbre thinly veiled, accents lying around, effects that go to the heart and excellent songs transcended by expertise from across the Channel. Whatever the style, would it be very current and trade, something in the English pop Always refers to a referenced high-end tradition. 'Chapter One' is an illustration: even when she ventures into pop-martial girly, katyperry-esque, Ella Henderson summoned the very rich hours. As for the titles she sings in a minimalist environment (piano, strings), voice and interpretation give you chills.

Like those of Leona Lewis, Duffy, Birdy or even Jessie J Ellie GOULDING, one is entitled to expect that the disc Ella Henderson manages to cross the Channel for some distributors do their work before than wait shivering that the artist becomes eventually an international phenomenon bankable. Nothing is gained since the albums very / too British Paloma Faith, Cher Lloyd, Jessie WARE, Eliza Doolittle, Ren Harvieu remained almost confidential in France. Ella HENDERSON, in a different genre, could pass unnoticed, as was the case for Bo BRUCE CHAPMAN Leddra, Emma STEVENS even Diana Vickers (crunchy singer clearly oriented pop-dance), and if I go back a bit in the past Alice MARTINEAU: an Englishwoman, now deceased, whose bewitching album itself is completely unknown in our latitude.

Finally on the album Ella HENDERSON, the 'Deluxe Edition' includes five bonus tracks including a fabulous '1996' itself irresistible, like most tracks on this amazing first album. A very impressive album whose title, 'Chapter One', is the promise of a great story to follow ... And, even should there ever 'Chapter Two', Ella Henderson have left a trace indelible in the history of pop music ... It was then that I found the unfortunate meteor that was the unforgettable Alice Martineau (Daydreams).
