The main reasons for my after intensive reading of test and user reports on netbooks decision taken for the NC10 were the most consistently acclaimed as a very bright display and when equipped with a 6-cell battery as an above-average long designated battery life (my otherwise wonderful notebook, a seven year-old IBM T30, unfortunately is unsuitable for outdoor work, the battery breaks down after about 1:40 hours - I would never give it anyway!).
Both expectations were, as far as I could tell so far, fully met. The brightness of the display is well suited for the use of netbooks in the sun; after more than two hours use of the battery charge status still appears with about 70%. Charged the device is pretty fast.
Thanks to various reviews I looked at reading the propositions always identical to the information on the battery (ultimately I have a device with Amazon Marketplace bought). Not all offers clearly indicate when the current memory is only a 3-cell battery. Either then no information is available or the runtime is specified with 3.5 hours. Although this value is not the worst, but it's worth it, because of the not very large price and probably hardly noticeable weight difference rather just a device with a stronger battery to choose.
The operation appears very good. With the not so small keyboard I have a few minutes of practice, no problems, and the touchpad is not difficult.
I first installed OpenOffice (download), which should be sufficient for most cases. Since designing presentations and play custom animations with this program but is still not entirely satisfactory, I still have MS PowerPoint installed (using a tiny external CD drive, I've also purchased from Amazon Marketplace).
Due to the review of a clearly disappointed customers (this had complained that the mobile network access only via T-Online is possible) I have tested at the outset whether the HSDPA modem is equipped with a SIM lock. I could not tell, my "AldiTalk Card" was immediately recognized and the online access works fine.
The sound of the NC10 is indeed something "rattling", but that did not bother because a netbook (without connecting external speakers) rather is not the appropriate instrument for listening to music. My conclusion: beautiful, functional and sustainable (due to the long battery life).
