The book is very as a reading in French lessons. I read it with my last 9th grade (secondary school, Bavaria) and the students liked the book very much. It is not a "texte fabriqué" but an authentic, autobiographical text in which the author tells about his childhood in Lyon. He writes in the first person perspective, which allows students to put themselves into the minds of Azouz. He describes without values, as the first contacts between foreign workers and French were designed and what difficulties had his father's generation, to integrate into France; the language and culture were so new and strange. The theme provides a lot of potential for intercultural understanding and promotes sensitivity and empathy: from educational terms therefore a great success, with a nice, conciliatory history, a surprising conclusion and many occasions to smile.
