I wanted it at first do not believe as the rumor spread that the stealth cult series "Metal Gear Solid" (= MGS) by game designer Hideo Kojima finally legend should find their way to the Rechenknecht again. Too many years have passed after MGS2, and as clean and stable I have this last does not keep in mind, fan's heart or not.
Add to that the large gap that has been left on the PC. The masterpiece MGS3? The PS3-exclusive title MGS4? For too long and in vain hoped for, it never came to the ports ardently desired. Another reason why the re-entry into the MGS series in this case, something difficult if one of the events from MG3: unfamiliar (and the PS Vita title "MGS Peace Walker"). The relationship between Snake / Big Boss and the other figures on the side of good are not so readily immediately conclusive knowledge but doing well.
And now the sudden return to the MGS5 prologue "Ground Zeroes" (= GZ)?
Surprising, on the other hand ... In the last 2 years a lot has changed for the better. Capcom and Co. show suddenly that PC ports known console hits can not only clean, but also outstandingly well be, if you are just more trouble. Now Konami also doing its part to do so. Once you have discovered the many years neglected Rechenknecht again for themselves? Regardless of this development alone returns bit by bit lost hope.
But back to GZ.
A prequel to the upcoming PS4 blockbuster "Phantom Pain" is in itself "only" a small sample bite, which shows a fraction of what's coming with Snakes aka The Big Boss' new stealth mission to us. Is that now a full game or just a pure promo demo for 15-20 Euro?
Hmmm ... somehow something of both. The season may be very short, if one with Slayer tactics all shot down and lays in ruins, after 2 hours, is on target. Cautious active gamblers need as much longer, 5-6 hours can be loosely einrechnen appear until the credits. Alternative ways of playing and routes can be found enough. But even then, the gameplay does not have to be over. After the first successful crossing you can devote optional destinations or establish time records.
The feeling is that of a traditional MGS absolutely worthy. Insidious, crouching or crawling explore the enemy territory, always move outside the opponent's viewing area, squeeze through openings or watch on rooftops the whole area and the enemy activity, eavesdrop on conversations, and so gather important information - that's stealth gameplay as you would for the MGS -Anfängen knows. Although missing Gadget classics like the famous cardboard box, as it no longer seems possible patrols with simple knock or a sleazy booklets distract skillfully what one or the other Old-fan could possibly be greatly missed, but it is also realistic to GZ lengths and gloomy staged than its predecessors, which explains the absence of well-known as beloved gimmicks, and it does not save including with pretty violent curing physical or psychological. Here Kojima pursues probably sharp distinctions to its predecessors. Can one ever approve for personal perspective or not, the game is not bad with this decision yet.
GZ is one of the first few titles that actually deserves to be called "next-gen game". Even the PS4 version has caused astonishment and pull-down end jaws - Well, Kojima halt * g * - but the PC port is him so well done, so incredibly good-looking game I've not seen since the first "Crysis" - in a continuous in-game graphics. The game environment, the figures and faces designing, the myriad effects (twitching in rainstorm tents, fluttering like Pitschnasse clothing of Snake and counterparties, the fantastic light effects and shadows, ...) - has, I was so flabbergasted by the optical system, it even prompted me to short-term graphics card upgrade, but where my old GTX660ti nearly whistled out of the last hole in the face of this spectacular graphics. * Gg *
Likewise, a class of its own is the sound. The noise, the voice output, the soundtrack - everything in cinematic quality, as one knows it from cineastes Kojima. Only one point is to him only conditionally forgive: the change from Snakes voice transmitter. It is no longer David Hayter, the inimitable way breathes life into the title role, but the film and series star Kiefer Sutherland. This does its job quite well, but the exaggerated (but or perhaps because so iconic) Hayter-kind he has not mastered. For this, the jaw has compared to Hayter far too tame little voice, but before again loud criticism is screaming from "bad" is its performance is still light years away. It's all just a matter of getting used to.
Conclusion:
A little taste of the upcoming MGS entree to us Designer guru Kojima served here. Maybe 15-20 euros are a tall order, but with recurring Steam Sales nobody should purchase shy when it can be had for about a tenner, otherwise I have not done it, and I tell you, it was absolutely worth it , GZ thrilled with his playful as technical advantages and quickly produced the heartfelt wish that the release of "Phantom Pain" as possible should be done soon.
SNAKE! DO YOU HEAR ME? SNAKE? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE !!! ;)
