This is my first purchase of a Sony Vaio computer and my choice fell on this 11-inch netbook to replace a 10-inch Samsung which was unfortunately a screen crash. We'll start with the positives: The hardware is correct, the average level of this price range: non-touch-screen shiny panel with anti-glare, chicklet keyboard, 500GB 5400 revolutions, with connectivity to all correct. The keyboard is not bad, the touchpad is effective and fairly easy to use, even if hidden buttons are a bit disconcerting at first. The Synaptics settings help to support, thankfully. If I had to sum up in a sentence, the hardware is rather well made, with a very correct finish, but in terms of average market prices. The software: If I say that there's Windows 8 in it, it should suffice to say that it is totally inadequate. The OS is greedy, very greedy, and the fact is that the processor heats up quickly, and arrives quickly to its limits. The fan, relatively loud, made me regret my netbook. The computer, in normal operation, is noisy, very noisy. This is felt on the battery, which was one of my criteria. Even if one is over 5 hours battery life by optimizing the beast, I think we could do much better with a suitable OS. Not the fault of Sony, but this OS is a major weakness of VAIO. The black dot now: the fact that we are related to this OS. Let me explain: I wanted to install a dual boot Linux / Win8, to use Linux in principal and Win8 necessary. Impossible. Finally, if the install is possible, being back under Win8 removes the Linux boot loader linux ... and farewell. Dedicated forums I have not solved the problem ... and we should expect assistance from Sony. The lack of installation DVD Windows8 leaves no room for error (and resettlement in Legacy mode), which is particularly damaging. So big disappointment.
