Workflow: tripod, shutter lag 2 seconds disconnected stabilization, aperture priority, ISO Auto, shooting in RAW (internal corrections off), in Lightroom, designed default, lossless downscaling of 24MP image of SLT 99 on 16MP in a TIFF file to the comparison not to make the screen at 100% each view for the 85er unfair. Shooting in Aperture 1.4; 1.7; 2.4; 5.6; 8 and 13 at the 85er, 1.8; 2.5; 5.6; 8 and 13 in the 50s Nex.
Conclusion as to sharpness: I would not believe it, did the test 2 times repeated: There is a better lens as my hitherto classified as superlative '85. The 50s is much sharper both in the center and in the corners to Aperture 5.6 in all comparable aperture. The 85 lags about 1 to 2 f-stops, achieved with aperture 5.6 only what can the 50 already at 2.5. At aperture 8 and above both lenses draw then equal.
So if you do not necessarily need the much larger potential exemption of the full format and the F1.4 is well served with 50 Nex.
PS: without downscaling falls the result purely visual for the 85er still desolate from.
