From the story I would like to have expected more.
Shay's history before he was Assassin, nothing is told. Identification with protagonists equal nil. I do not know the guy and his motivation.
You might have with these annoying Animus memos and computer hacking puzzle can tell the Abstergo's headquarters, whose sense not open up to me anyway.
The transformation from Assassins to the Templars happens abruptly and is not necessarily conclusive, why he commits the same betrayal.
I would like to know more about the Templars and their organization and motivation. In this game, suddenly the roles Assassin = Good, = evil Templars is reversed. But why? I play now a good figure or a bad guy with a good attitude?
Pure play the main story is really much too short.

Side missions are limited to interception of Assassins, quit skirmishes between the British and French, upgrading the ship, naval battles and the Seeschlachtenkampagne (with tactical map against AI opponents only online possible), collecting items to new uniforms unlock, hunting of wildlife and marine life , Conquer of economic areas, renovations, Lagerplünderungen.

The renovations of buildings all over the map generated only coins. Why do I need as much coins and but has dozens capital ships and warehouses plunder the renovations and expansion vessel to finance. If I could at least buy raw materials and not just sell.

All in all, Assassin's Creed Rogue only a DLC of Black Flag value. No really intoxicating character, short main story, side quests desolate at the time and are really only useful for trophy hunters.
