Withers was arrested on his first album the gospel, blues and a bit of the folk, so he went on, Still Bill 'fully toward funk grooves.
There are still songs tell stories, describe situations, but this time much more dance oriented and more implemented for a black audience.
, Lonely Town, Lonely Street ', Who Is He ...', `Use Me ',` Kissing My Love', 'Another Day To Run', and `Take It All In And Check It All Out 'are the Groove Monster warden not in vain still like reinterpreted today, because you have to offer not only irresistible rhythms, but also great melodies.
In, Let Me In Your Life ',' I Do not Know ',' I Do not Want You On My Mind ', and above all in, Lean On Me' showed his vulnerable Withers soulful side. These songs do not tear with of course, they are strongly rooted in the plaintive, sad blues, but are great, especially because Withers shows how the black counter-proposal to the white American folk music looks.
The arrangements on this album are not inflated as in the later Philly sound-heavy albums; there's a lot of acoustic guitar indoors - Keziah Jones should have studied very closely this record - lots of percussion and heat in the production process, which unfortunately often lacked the later Withers albums.
Withers was always a Ausnahemerscheinung in the Soul scene, a loner and his setting forth the white Sing-a-songwriting much closer than his style / contemporaries. Above all, what makes this album a classic.
