Well, "Chapter 1" is probably not the most current board of the band - "Z" would be for the aforementioned purposes probably better - but I'm very pleased.
The mood is a little melancholic, sometimes dreamy, but not exactly "beautiful" in the original sense. The plate is rather marked by calm, or slow songs, the voice of singer Jim James is very domineering, the same shows many facets. Felt a little like when you first hear of the plate to the solo albums of John Frusciante.
"Mr. White Rabbit" is a slightly harder piece that really stand out for spherical atmosphere, but remains rather the exception to the plate.
The pieces are partly not mixed, have been partly taken up as a demo even directly on the plate. So the album is less a concept album, but rather a compilation of previous recordings of the band.
This makes the album but imo not really bad, only if care is not just aspire a technically perfect blended panel.
