A documentary book in which we learn a lot about the life of geishas. On the origin of those who become the (system adopted daughters), dress details, the strict rules of life, daily and intensive practice of the arts (singing, dancing, music) and qualifications: a graceful gait ( more than beauty), a flexible character, a reserved attitude and great subtlety in relationships. This is really a world apart, a world of suffering and prostitution (this side is not hidden in the story), but also a world where they are the object of attention, given a pride, self-esteem and are protected from poverty (and can help the family as in the case of Kinu Yamaguchi).
But what bothered me in this book is that the profusion of details is sometimes stuffy (they are not always interesting). Often we are treated to an endless series of details that makes reading a bit choppy and quite barren final.
