This book captivated me from the beginning to the end - for its endearing characters living in a difficult and somewhat forgotten today (destiny of a country at the border, which undergoes the German occupation during the last world war), alas an often misunderstood condition and charged prejudice or half-truths. The history of Alsace tormented by the many occupations should be better known - and Marie Kuhlmann was able to describe the lives of Alsatian, their courage, they had to endure, and fighting to survive during these difficult times and the hard life of the people of the potash mine. I also read his work on Amelie well, and I can only encourage readers to embark, and recommend it to your friend (s).
