It's pop is rock, melodic, removed, inspired, it smells real instruments, real musicians, production binomial Bowie / Visconti with onions ... Brief aside a few slightly more titles lower than the other, it's hard to find fault with this new Bowie.
Highlights of the disc? The Next Day course opening the ball and reassures fan on Bowie's intentions. The Stars (Are Out Tonight) is for me the best song of the album, its brisk pace, his unstoppable melody, her sexy guitars, its intoxicating strings ... You're right Mr. Bowie, the Stars are out tonight. .. Where Are We Now is one of two ballads on the album. Not the best but worthwhile if only for the voice of Bowie, particularly moving. Valentine's Day is a perfect pop song, very brit pop. I'm less excited about If You Can See and drum beat drum & bass that almost reminds me of the 90s electro albums including Earthling. I'de Rather Be High is refreshing and holds an unstoppable pop melody. The Dancing Out In Space battery intro furiously reminiscent of Modern Love in 1983. (You Will) Set The World On Fire starts on a virtual hard rock guitar riff and becomes a little lighter on the chorus. The second ballad on the disc, You Feel So Lonely You Could Die, is a marvel to listen again.
This new Bowie album is therefore a real success, a record that will delight fans of the first as novices. Because even when it is demanding, it is also accessible to the greatest number, which we must admit has not always been the case all Bowie records.
In 2013, as for more than 40 years, Bowie continues to raise the level of production and rock music that's very good news ... hope The Next Day marks a new beginning for Duke.
