Externally expected the StoreJet to cheap. A plastic case encloses the high-speed controller including plate. Also the power supply is very simple at first glance, and consists of two parts that need to be plugged together.
All the dropped my hope for a quality HDD beginning - of the "inner values" of the plate but was fully convinced.
First, the HDD from FAT 32 had to be reformatted to NTFS, to larger files, which are available at an imaginary as the boot disk backup HDD to save, can. This took place in quick format mode of Windows a few seconds to take.
Cyrstal Disk Mark then delivers incredible value in "5x 1000MB test" on a three-month old computer with USB3.0 interface, connected to a USB3.0 hub.
Sequential Read: 191 MB / s, write: 172 MB / s (other current HDDs usually create just 100 MB / s when reading and writing)
512k Read: 57 MB / s, write: 90.5 MB / s
4K Read: 0.65 MB / s, writing: 1.26 MB / s
4K QD32: 0.67 MB / s, writing: 1.10 MB / s
Such a fast USB 3.0 drive I had never in use! Outside the Benachmark environment proves the StorJet as data transfer athlete. The system backup is banned in 8 minutes on the plate, with earlier USB2.0 drives, it took four times as long.
Unfortunately there are for external HDDs panacea not know why the panel also "only" 4 stars are awarded.
Next there beside the cheap appearance criticize:
- Loud running noise; she roars like a radiator until the power-saving mode enables the external hard drive into deep sleep, but this does not usually last long (see above).
- An on / off switch would be desirable for my application.
- Missing German manual / PDFs
- Plate often wakes up very quickly from the deep sleep mode under Windows 8.1 without a user's access is made to them. But perhaps for some security software responsible, which is installed on my computer, ie virus scanners etc.
The supplied software I have not tested, just not the switch which is probably why not work for me because I have not installed the software.
All in all probably the next LaCie drives currently the fastest drive in this price range on the market - and thus receives well-deserved 4 stars, actually would be 4 1/2 appropriate. Long-term experiences are not yet available. Unless the board in the future causing problems, I would recommend this "late filing" here.
Conclusion: Despite some minor restrictions a strong buy recommendation for anyone looking for an extremely fast HDD and thus save time for large backups want.
