I would like to note at the outset that Battlefield 1942, as well as other war games with real background, can be a delicate matter quite when it is simply accepted uncritically. Whether it is the Second World War now playing down or even glorifying, is left to the viewer. That is not to be the moral index finger, but the problem should not be swept under the carpet as well. THIS IS A PREVIEW REVIEW: Of course it's risky to evaluate a game using only the Demos previously published, but I have this already absolutely convinced. Anyone who is undecided and has the opportunity to do so, you should get a purchase decision necessarily the demos from the network (130MB - 140MB in size). First Electronic Arts released the single player demo 'Tobruk' (North African desert) .It is here to discharged with infantry and tanks battle between the British and the Germans. The aim of the so-called Conquer game is to conquer all enemy positions and the annihilation of the enemy. One can choose freely between the two nations. At the beginning of the round you play as a German offensive or defensive Brite, which over the course of the game, however, may change very quickly. Both countries are following classes are available, which can also be freely selected: Scout (Sniper), assault ('normal' soldier), anti-tank (tank destroyer), medic (Medic) and engineer (engineer or pioneer). These classes differ in the individual Bawaffnung and in their abilities, with all its advantages and disadvantages. For example, a scout his opponent off at greater distances and with less ammunition than the assault, but he takes a lot of time to recharge and is usually inferior in close combat. It is possible during the game to change the class, either by picking up the equipment of a defeated unit or - after getting himself killed - a new class selects before re-entering the game (respawn). All units move on foot by the way the same speed and can use vehicles. In the Tobruk map various tanks and howitzers can be used, which differ in combat strength, speed and handling. The vehicles can be occupied by two people, what (more on this later) can be very useful especially in a multiplayer game. It is thus possible in a tank, for example, to act either as a driver and gunner or as a machine gunner in the tower. The AI bots in Sigle player game is pretty neat, sometimes even a little too intelligent. It so happens that the tanks losballern without any visual contact with the enemy already, because the AI yes know that someone is standing behind the hill in front. Also, I sometimes find it annoying that overthrow the bots at the beginning of a battle immediately on the vehicles and losbrausen; you yourself can then watch as an easy walk to the scene (the map is quite large!). From time to time you see a bot sometimes stand around idly, but I would refer to the AI as well. In addition, one must not forget that Battlefield 1942 is designed primarily as a multiplayer game. The multiplayer demo 'Wake Iceland' takes the player on a Pacific island where a battle between Japanese (attacker) and Americans (defender) will be held. Compared to the single-player demo is fought not only on land but also at sea and in the air. The Japanese begin with an aircraft carrier and a destroyer, while Americans hold five bases on the island. This demo allows much better than the SP demo guess what to expect from the full version. (!) From the SUV to the aircraft carriers of each vehicle can be moved; also fixed guns, anti-aircraft guns and machine-gun nests can be climbed and used. The vehicles can be used for the most part by several players simultaneously, which means that eg on the destroyer next to the bridge even the guns and machine guns can be busy, so therefore can be operated both offensively and defensively. It is also possible to fly with as Sniper in a bomber or to be take in a landing boat, jeep or Halbkettenfahrzeug as a passenger. The ships there are, incidentally difficulties when they are in motion (and only then!): Other players, running around it, can get huge problems in locomotion. Starting from an aircraft (moving) aircraft carriers can be a gamble. Maybe that is still fixed for the full version. The control of the soldiers and vehicles is very simple and can be individually adjusted in the options. For flying the aircraft, a joystick is recommended, but using the keyboard You can achieve good results with a little practice. An exit with a parachute is incidentally also possible. The first few days after the appearance of the MP demo it was almost impossible to find a stable server connection without problems. Meanwhile, the situation has relaxed and you will find very quickly a good server. If you are not surrounded by loud Team killers or the teams are extremely unbalanced (4 Japanese against 28 Americans), you can have a lot of fun with this game. Teamwork is the key to success, even if the number of players that run through a solo act, is not yet familiar. But this will also normalize once the game has been a while in the market. Communication is via function keys and chat feature. These options should also be perceived, because the common tactical approach ultimately decide victory or defeat. Despite the necessary tactics the gameplay is not too complex and remains manageable; the difficult fusion between action and tactical shooter was mastered superbly by EA. The game seems to me ideal for lovers of both genres. So far, I was fortunate enough to play with up to 32 players on a server, which has already made enormous fun. Battlefield 1942 sees itself as 'Massive Multiplayer Game' and games with up to 64 participants, it will be possible - provided the appropriate network connection. On the graph there is nothing wrong. They can be described as brilliant, would be an exaggeration, however, is a good to very good indeed not to be despised. In conjunction with the realistic sounds a great game atmosphere comes on. I look forward in any case forward to the full version.
