The GPS receiver comes in a solid packaging - as usual Canon - with various accessories (2 cable, a short, long, carrying case, manual, CD, ...), I have not tried everything.

Commissioning
The device has a battery compartment, which can be opened like Canon. It summarizes a Mignon (AA) battery (for durability I can currently make no statement)

On top of the device is the only rotary switch is for use with three settings (Off, On, Log) and two red LEDs (Batt., GPS), the flashing regularly.

The display of the camera - if you tap the shutter - below GPS - Symbol, initially flashing because no GPS fix is ​​still recognized. After about a minute he had the signal and the display will then stop flashing

In the settings (Tools icon of the camera) is the point "GPS settings" now selectable.

There are among others a setting "Digital Compass", which you can activate.

Under the item "GPS information display" now I get the following information on the display:

For example, direction N358 ° is displayed, the display is constantly changing during rotation of the camera.
So the compass information is passed to the camera even with the 650D at least.

But the test when taking shows that the compass and direction information in the picture display on the camera (when histogram display) are displayed per screen.
This is confirmed by the evaluation of the EXIF ​​data on the PC and the display at Geosetter, also interprets the line of sight of the camera.
The compass can also calibrate - I have not yet been made, the direction agreed at least approximately the same as my imagination.

A first test of the accuracy is also failed seeeehr positive, the photos are added to within a few meters at the locations as they appear to me in Goolge Maps.

as I said, I've only made a few test shots and the first impression is very positive.
One criticism is the safe current very high prices. Any other GPS logger or recording with the smartphone is more favorable. But for that I have to manually with relatively high expense the information afterwards on the PC to add the images. I've tried for years with different methods, as simple as possible should get. Now this time I can save and that was me then but value!

Oh, and I have the GPS receiver down the entire time in the "LOG", and in this position, the EXIF ​​data to be written. The evaluation of the log I can not make. On the memory card I find at least no files that I could identify as track gauge. That leaves me just to try the software supplied with the unit.

And the built-in flash works naturally with plugged Logger no longer sufficient. But it is still both possible: One can additionally or alternatively use the supplied cable, which is connected between the GPS receiver and USB camera. Thus, the camera is also connected to the receiver (GPS menu detects the device) and the flash can be used. Just me then missing the opportunity, the GPS receiver stuck and the compass direction of course does not turn to the camera but depending on how the GP-E2 is held. But it works!
