The three detectives Justus, Peter and Bob have to face a particularly tricky case in the anniversary episode. Three enigmatic letters of a deceased master thief lead the Three ??? On the trail of a lost and mysterious painting. The well-known French master thief Victor Hugenay occurs in this episode again on the opponent of the three detectives.

Although the three volumes of the CD box provide plenty of space for a multi-layered story, and exactly this advantage is also used, the overview of the storyline remains nevertheless safeguarded. Except for a few lengths in which quite pull the conversations of the three detectives, there is plenty of suspense, action and brain-teasers to hear.

Some passages, especially where Justus attaches to its legendary analysis monologues are, but sometimes hard to understand. I admit that I had to listen to some scenes twice before I had understood everything exactly. I am also the end of history has a little disappointed. While there is a surprising and unexpected denouement, but the riddle is quite flat. The fuss around the painting was only because Victor Hugenay did not want the public learns that the painter is his father.

Toll at the end of the episode, however, is the showdown between Hugenay and Justus. Especially the fact that Hugenay not escape this one time, are the consequence of a new turn in the contrary of previous volumes. It will be interesting if the Hugenay Drei ??? is not yet challenged again on a puzzle.

Such allusions to events and people from previous episodes, the detectives actually come before in any case. In some episodes disturb these back references and give the listener the feeling of having missed something. Here you wake up but rather the curiosity of the recipient, which is not least also due to the interesting figure of Victor Hugenay.

The new theme music I find unlike many Drei ??? - Fans really good. They bring new vitality and momentum in the cases and also the intermediate melodies for bridging individual scenes look crisper.
I welcome also, that you can learn a lot from the three detectives as handset. Or you would have known what an anamorphosis?

Overall a worthy anniversary episode, when actually a little disappointed just the end of the mystery hunt. The case is sufficient but clearly not to the, in my opinion, best ever all three ??? - (Vol. 100) consequences, 'Dead Island' approach.
