In my last interview with Steffen Jummerer, guitarist and singer of Obscura, stated this, his band play "easy proggigen Death Metal". That was cute and, incidentally one of the most violent understatements that have ever been put to me. "Cosmogenesis" has the German band introduced a deal with Relapse Records, brought her some ass cool tours and by the way "easy" respect on the part of the entire extreme metal world. Now I'm listening for the umpteenth time "Omnivium" and must make sure that my lower jaw does not fall on my Tatstatur. It was apparently a good move "Cosmogenesis" then "only" to give 14 points, because what is at playful madness, technical finesse and phenomenal songwriting in the new album, tops its predecessor times evenly. More points now I can next time not to give. But this is also likely to be difficult to "Omnivium" but moved brutally close to perfection ... in all respects. A transparent sound ensures first that they all listened to the insane details and intricacies without effort out. That's important, but are Obscura with the best example of that bass must not merely be supportive accessories. Jeroen Paul Thesseling elicits from his instrument seemingly effortless, the funkiest runs and Grooves. Frontman Steffen has besides playing chords even demanding the task, his lyrics, to roar out beyond lutschter Gore theme through the ether. This makes it now even more varied than before. Besides hoarse nagging and deep Geröhre heard on "Omnivium" first clear vocals and the experiment goes on. His Axtkollege Christian Muenzner conjures also the wirrsten riffs and solos wildest out of the hat and drummer Hannes Grossmann was born into a famous family of octopuses. Here is bludgeoned with rhyme or reason and then only when needed. Would that be clarified with the technical skills; that the Quartet also has a knack for catchy arrangements with easy catchy, it could already prove on 2 albums, but what in 2011 is waiting for friends sophisticated death art, defies description. From the fantastic and diverse opener "Septuagint" (alone the beginning is James Hetfield and men some little tears elicit), to the glory gereichende about Morbid Angel, nasty grooving "Ocean Gateway" to the final major work "Aevum" create Obscura something for which the would kill most of the competition: to bring claim, catchiness and variety under one roof. The plate is not boring, it is permanently stretched as it goes on and a higher compliment you can not get from me.
