The Hagakure (literally "the shadow Leaves" or "Hidden in the foliage") is a practical guide, ethical and spiritual intended, originally, to Nabeshima samurai clan.
This is a compilation of thoughts and teachings Jocho Yamamoto, former samurai vassal of Nabeshima Mitsushige.
His comments, collected by a young scribe between 1709 and 1716 were not revealed until the early 20th century to the Japanese public since jealously guarded secret for over 150 years by the Nabeshima clan.
