But not "Quite ok"

Lenovo Miix 2-11 29.5 cm (11.6 inch FHD IPS) Convertible Tablet PC (Intel Core i5 4202Y, 2.0GHz, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 4200, Touchscreen, Win 8.1) silver ( Personal Computers)

Customer Review

There are now already some tests for 11.6 inch device, among other things at Notebookcheck. Therefore, I shall confine myself to some personal impressions concerning the 4202y 256GB version:

SSD is of Samsung and really good and fast.

Display is good, homogeneous, stable viewing angle, bright enough, not blaustichtig. But highly specular (bad for outdoor).

Fan is in the quiet location (and burden of Miix) to hear, but not especially annoying.

Safety: So-so. The Miix has no TPM. Therefore Bitlocker Edrive / Hardware Encryption is not working. But encryption software goes. Then the Keyboarddock must however be connected during the boot. Alternatively or in addition it is also a SSD password set (for this one needs no hardware keyboard, as the BIOS so far indicates a software keyboard on the tablet). The maximum password length is SSD but so short that it probably can not be considered safe.

The Miix is very fluid and fast (even while surfing with 2 browsers and each 10 tabs at the same time).

The keyboard is very useful for the size.

The build quality is good in principle and acts dibasic. Exception: The Keyboarddock cracks as a clicker when you press the bottom of the corners.

Windows 8.1 Pro is easy to install if you do not like the castrated Core version.

Battery life quite ok.

Update:

I have my Miix yet checked diverse errors that have been criticized by other ...

1.
"The computing power of the device is far below the usual values for this processor (benchmark Cinebench R11.5 single 0.6; 0.9 multi - normal values were at multi> = 2); probably because CPU and GPU at each load Heruntertakten immediately. "

I have received a multi-core Cinebench R15 score of 84 CPU. (Antivirus and firewall active. "Balanced" power saving mode. Connected to power cord.) The processor thereby to max. Heated 51-52 degrees and the CPU clock has leveled off after a short time due Throtteling on average about 1000 MHz. I have this measured by ThrottleStop 6.

In the subsequent measurement, I have turned off the firewall and the power saving mode "High performance" activated. Multicore Conclusion 97. In a repeated measurements under colder ambient conditions, earnings of 108 revealed.

This appears in approximately the Notebookcheck results of the Core i3 model (multi-core value 93) to suit. With permanent load the Miix 2 11 thus thermally limited due to it small housing and can not take advantage of the fast processor. For many daily tasks that need only short-term performance, this will be different. For example, in Adobe Lightroom the CPU clock speed is much higher.

"It so happens while surfing the Internet and also the video streaming of HD or Full HD content over and over again to smaller dropouts that accumulate when the antivirus software, install or download still running in the background."

Not happened to me actually. However, I take the supplied McAfee bloatware installed a resource-friendly AV scanner. Also, I have learned that some video player allows liquid than others. For certain files, eg VLC increased even on my 3.5GHz Quad Core desktop computer.

. 3
"It is a pure stroke of luck that the clickable keyboard is detected by magnetic or not ... and if it is detected, that is, unfortunately, far from that also operate the two USB ports." ... "It appears that the connection between the dock and tablet seems very imprecise. In both devices there were problems. Sometimes the extra speakers did not go, sometimes hacked the keyboard. The last broke after 5 days of the built-in JBL and croaked only. "

For me, the USB 2.0 ports have so far always works. The keyboard has hitherto always recognized. Exception: Once I had it torn unintentionally half out of its holder at boot time. Since it was not recognized. Even with the speakers there was with me no problems (also in presentation mode not). Once I connect the keyboard, the subwoofer immediately begin to play along.

. 4
"The mounted on the device Windows Button worked unfortunately only sporadically ... hit or miss .... after the second, third attempt it worked, but that's in a Windows tablet is an absolute no-go!"

The works for me. But you have to take precise and the finger let something pushed (to the feedback sounds) him. Presumably this is a protection against inadvertent activation that would annoying. But it is true that you have to press the button very targeted.

. 5
"I did when typing on the screen (the keyboard has almost never worked ;-) noticed that this incorrectly as e 'is for normal writing speed eg letter e, etc. In addition. Very annoying ..."

Does not happen with me during normal and fast typing. But if you long for the "e" makes the finger, pops up a menu, which allows you to select various special forms of "e". For example, with an accent. This is not a bug but a feature.

. 6
"A major problem is the built-WiFi module. This is not supporting the wireless channels 12-14 apparently US modules. This dip in public and private Wi-Fi networks but repeatedly on what mobility yet extremely restricts partially. "

I could not test.

Update 2

I have deleted a rating star for the following reasons:

1. I and others (see Lenovo Forum) have had very bad experiences with the Lenovo Customer Service. Actually, there is none at all. In the Lenovo Forum there is no useful support. The Customer Service in Germany is outsourced to Medion. For a lot of money (paid Hotline) there is no practical assistance.

2. The charging cable of Miix seems to be proprietary. To date, there is obviously no one has managed to load the tablet with a power bank, another PSU or another cable. Even worse: If the cable breaks, you can not reorder the cable apparently as a spare part, but must discard the tablet (see the Passion of the Lenovo forum.).

Otherwise, even an update to throttling. The problem is likely to be improved in the near future through a BIOS Hack at least somewhat. This only works if you are not updated on the very latest BIOS. So be careful with bios updates. Background: [...]

Update 3:

At least the CPU Throttling problem now thanks posted by iseon tricks with the bar Edit program (see above), which also works with latest Bios solved. The Cinebench R15 Multi-CPU score now stands at 160 (instead of 110). Thus, the Core i5 4202y operates at full capacity. Temperatures remain in the frame. The GPU throttles still. Thereon is still under construction.

Update 4:

I once painted a star because Lenovo has obviously dangerous adware installed on some or all Miix 2 11 Super fish for profit [...]. The adware is not only annoying and displays unwanted advertising. It also installs an insecure root certificate. This means in conclusion that with Webrowsern HTTPS encrypted connections (eg online banking) can no longer be carried out safely. In a WLAN Cafe for example you can easily due to the uncertain certificate by a man-in-the-middle attack can be "tapped" (although the browser thinks he has a secure encrypted connection to online banking set up). Myself not concerned with the problem, because I already have Lenovo never trusted and formatted the device immediately and reinstalled Windows. Who has not done so, should remove Superfish and especially the dangerous root certificate immediately: [...]

Update 5: Amazon has 3 links deleted in my review. The links contained a reference to (i) instructions in the official Lenovo forum to turn off the throttling, (ii) an official admission by Lenovo on its own website that Superfish has been installed on the Miix and (iii) instructions from Lenovo on their own website for Uninstalling Superfish and the dangerous root certificates. Since Amazon has deleted the links, I'll rather not reinsert. The reader must therefore help with Google now, unfortunately.
