In Kristin Cashores world there are seven kingdoms, in which time and again children are born who have a gift (in English it means "grace", I guess the translation would be something like "gift"). These children can be recognized that they have two different eye colors and because the gifts are as varied and unpredictable, the "gifted" (in English "Grace lings") are feared and exploited. (Just to avoid misunderstandings:. This gift can really be anything, for example, swimming, climbing, fighting, or read minds ... really anything is possible) Katsa, the main character, has the gift to kill the king and her Uncle, she used to punish and intimidate his enemies.
The story begins with the fact that Katsa an old man freed from the dungeon of another king and thereby met someone who obviously has a gift, because he is the first, at least one time may be long in a fight against them.
The book then develops relatively rapidly and Katsa learn among other things about her gift that she would not have thought possible.
What I liked most about this book was that Katsa is such a direct character - if she learns something new, others are confronted with it and the story associated momentum right from the start.
I was downright sad when I was on the last page because Graceling one of the best fantasy books that I've read. And next year the sequel, but as far as I have correctly interpreted this, not by Katsa appears fortunately (however only in autumn). However, I will read it with certainty because I was not enough of Kristin Cashore and their wonderful world have after reading Graceling far.
