I put a DVD burner in it and it works by reading / writing (at least for DVD + RW). That there is much that is provided a front burner, so if you get an old player with a compatible front no problem you just have to change it (it's easy, just some push pins). By cons do not count beat burning speed records with this case, with a given player to 8x burning I get 4x writing and reading is between 3x and 4x or 5x for DVD-R.
