The device comes in plain black and edged with a subtle blue lighting. Looks nice, but I did not care if I'm honest. The important thing, however, was the noise level, the (for me) is no longer with the unit from 4 yards perceptible. HDMI cable is, unlike many other devices in and so the plate could be tested directly.
The menu comes in black / blue with white writing, therefore, visually appealing, however, reacts a little sluggish to user input, but also the wodran gruesome remote control is to blame. The rubber buttons have no real pressure point and move in all directions, which makes the operation ugly. The FB is, if I have time 15 minutes and lust, replaced by my universal FB, so the problem should do.
In the settings was first updated to the latest firmware (at the time of the review 3.25), then the device has been connected to the network (what wonderful works wirelessly with a wireless bridge, even without Lacies dongle). The integration into the network worked perfectly thanks to DHCP, the board could be accessed directly via UNC path. (Also very nice in the operating instructions).
The playback of video has been tested with a full-HD video (~ 12GB for 96 minutes) directly from disk and worked flawlessly. When you play the same file on USB there was stuttering, who made a play impossible, although the stick reaches read speeds of 50MB / s on PC. Full-HD media on a USB flash drive you should therefore prefer to copy only the internal plate (comes with firmware 3.25 also directly via the menu).
Playback of audio and pictures has been tested via DLNA server, the included Twonky server was simple to install and set and delivered after sound and image to the TV in the living room.
The device has now been 10 days in my application, so I can still incorporate no long-term results in the review, the first impression, however, has fully convinced me.
What's even noticed positive:
Readable manual - no longer a standard (but only in English, we just noticed me)
Active product - There are actually firmware updates and there is even this Release Notes
Criticism is only the remote control - what Sony supremacy, others go to: To supply high-quality (or high quality processed) technical equipment cheap-looking controls.
