Shaving and very effective and a razor never shaved my not so close (blades fixed to spring). The glide is perfect, precision rear blade is great for pasta.
So yes five blades front and one behind it may sound ridiculous but yet the efficiency is there. It's expensive but certainly the longevity of the blades is true provided that you do not throw the head as soon as the lubricating strip is worn.
