The album marks the culmination of Coltrane's "Classic Quartet" period before in the last years of his life devoted himself more to the influence of free jazz. In "A Love Supreme" this awakening is characterized more tonal and harmonic freedom from already, but this album is (not to say wants: better) in my opinion much more audible than the later.
Why bring out a jazz album from 1964 on SACD I do not understand. However, you can indeed make knowledge before buying, whether their own CD players SACD support. My CD player anyway, is over 15 years old and plays SACDs with no problems. Perhaps we should write a bad review resist Also, if you like my Vorrezensent - bought the wrong medium - of their own ignorance.
In addition to this SACD there are "A Love Supreme" also in two other issues (as a normal CD):
- As a simple CD (ASIN B000AXZCNM), here you can also listen to music samples
- As a deluxe edition (ASIN B00006K06N) in new digital revision and additional CD with live recordings from the jazz festival in Antibes (1965)
